Tips & advice

Make the most of your time on the water with a few tried and tested tips:

Head for the hot spots
Two new fishing platforms offer safer, easier access to some of the lake’s most productive areas – perfect for bank anglers looking to land a lively trout.

Hire a boat
Our refreshed fleet is ideal for loch-style fishing and gives you the best shot at reaching deeper water and secluded pockets. Life preservers are available free of charge – just ask at reception.

Tackle talk
A 9-10ft rod with a 5-8wt line is the go-to setup here, paired with either a floating line or a Midge tip, depending on conditions.

Fly selection
Seasonal shifts and weather patterns make a difference, but you can rarely go wrong with classics like Hoppers, Buzzers, Damsels, Hares Ears or Princes.

A local favourite
The Bannister family have been fishing this lake for generations. Their winning formula? A Midge tip line, long leader, and three bushy hackled wets, retrieved nice and steady.
